Buying football boots can be overwhelming! There are so many different styles and brands on the market.
To choose a boot, you need to consider the playing surface, your position, the style of boot, the materials, the brand, the fit, the price and of course the comfort.
We have put together a list of popular brands and styles as a starting point.
In Australia, we are playing on a natural grass surface and boots designed for firm ground are the most versatile.
Your position may influence your choice, forwards may look for lightweight and speed orientated boots, midfielders may prefer more control and support, defenders need durable boots with protection and grip and goalkeepers require sturdy boots with excellent grip.
The boots should fit well and be comfortable. Sizes and fits vary between brands so try at least 3 brands.
Materials include leather, synthetic and knit uppers. Leather offers excellent comfort and good fit over time. K- leather is premium. Synthetic is lighter, more water resistant and often more affordable and may suit junior players. Knit uppers provide sock-like fit and flexibility.
The weight of the boot may be a consideration – lighter boots are typically better for agility and speed, heavier boots may offer more protection and durability.
Your budget, Brand Preference and Design and Style preferences will also play a part in your choice. Experiment with different brands and choose designs and colours that resonate with your style but make sure these don’t compromise functionality.
Try before you buy! Make sure you try the boots in-store with your football socks and orthoses if you wear them.
By considering these factors, you’ll find a pair of football boots that enhance your game and keep you comfortable on the field!
